Hitguj

History

It will be injustice, not to mention some other names who had been ‘Strong Pillars’ of the Pratishthan. To name a few, Vinayak Govind alias Bhausaheb Marathe, his wife Maltibai Marathe, Madhavrao Narayan (Ma.Na.) Marathe from Dombivali, Sadashiv Gopal Joshi of Thane, Prabhakar Dattatray Marathe of Chinchwad, Mohanrao Marathe from Khar, Vinayak Keshav Marathe from Worli, Sitaram Khambete of Andheri and later Laxamn Shankar Marathe. All these persons have taken much pains in

  • publishing the Kulvruttant (a genealogical record of various Marathe Families),
  • making various activities of the Pratishthan a grand success,
  • in publishing of the Pratishthan mouthpiece ‘Hitguj’,

Beginning

After the Pratishthan came into being in 1981, a need was felt to have a mouthpiece to reach maximum people from the Marathe Clan and make them aware of the developments and the constructive work being undertaken by the Pratishthan. It was also felt that a publication of its own, would help Pratishthan to establish effective rapport with the members, would provide a platform for the members to share their moments of glory and of sorrow, would bring about unity among the members and bind them with the feeling of oneness. After the Pratishthan came into being in 1981, a need was felt to have a mouthpiece to reach maximum people from the Marathe Clan and make them aware of the developments and the constructive work being undertaken by the Pratishthan. Collect Rs. 200/- as Life time Membership fee in single installment. The Hitguj should be made available for distribution only to such members paying single contribution of Rs. 200/-. The practice of sending Hitguj to all members for free should be immediately discontinued. Some consistency should be brought in its publication i.e. it should be published in March, June, September and December every year. The financial aspect would be taken care of, by interest earned on the fund of Rs. 1 lac which would be possible if the membership target of 500 is achieved. Financial stability can be achieved by effective canvassing for advertisements and donations for Hitguj. An advisory committee should be established for decisions about contents, editing, publication and distribution of the Hitguj.

Current Scenario

Thus the reins of Hitguj were now accepted by the present editor Dr. Sumedha Marathe, initially with the editorial assistance of Shri. Sitaram Gopal Khambete who independently published 2 issues of Dec 2006 and March 2007. Since then, the Hitguj is being published, with 24 pages of literary contributions in various forms, from the enthusiasts from the Marathe Clan. The veracity of subjects handled by the Hitguj can be judged by having a glance at the index of articles published in Hitguj right from its inception. It gave many of us Marathes a platform to express our views on various matters, created an opening for our creativity in various fields like literature, arts, poetry etc.
